Colorful Wisconsin Postal Employees
Bottom of page...

A number of postmasters and mail carriers left their stamp on Wisconsin history. Most postal employees Wisconsin were men. Postal regulations specified that "no carrier can be employed who is under sixteen years of age; and no bidder will be accepted who is under twenty-one years of age, or who is a married woman." Widows, however, often kept shops that doubled as fourth-class post offices. Local post offices were extremely important in town life, and a number of colorful stories about Wisconsin postmasters and mail carriers have been preserved.
